Join journalists, bloggers, and scientists to discuss innovative ways to communicate about climate change

Internews’ Earth Journalism Network and the International Institute for Environment and Development (IIED) will host the 2^nd Climate Communications Day at this year’s UNFCCC Climate Change Summit in Doha, Qatar. This year we will specifically examine how the wealth of environmental and scientific data available can best be harnessed to explain the issues surrounding climate change.

The day-long forum, an official side event of the UNFCC, will bring together journalists, bloggers, press officers, academics, scientists, IT professionals and other communications experts. Climate Communications Day focuses on exchanging insights, lessons learned and innovative approaches to spread news and information about climate change accurately and effectively.

The Hamad bin Khalifa University Student Center is located in Education City, a cluster of university buildings in Qatar, near Gate 3. The University Student Center faces Texas A&M University at Qatar. Please reference this map for more detailed directions.

Registration for Climate Communications Day is free but all travel expenses and COP18 registration is the responsibility of the registrant.

Earth Journalism Network

For the last seven years, Internews has been seeking to meet the challenge of communicating climate change through its Earth Journalism Network – which now includes over 3,000 journalists working to cover environmental issues for local media organizations across the globe. EJN assists local networks and individual journalists around the world through training programs, fellowships, the development of online resources and social networks, awards programs and supporting the production of thousands, of stories.

International Institute for Environment and Development

IIED is one of the world’s most influential international development and environment policy research organisations. Founded in 1971 by economist Barbara Ward, who forged the concept and cause of sustainable development, IIED works with partners on five continents. The institute builds bridges between policy and practice, rich and poor communities, the government and private sector, and across diverse interest groups. IIED contributes to many international policy processes and frameworks, including the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change, the Millennium Ecosystem Assessment and the UN conventions on climate change and biological diversity.

Climate Change Media Partnership

Over the last five years, Internews has teamed up with IIED and Panos to form the Climate Change Media Partnership which has sent over 170 journalists to the last five climate summits to support capacity-building activities and improved climate change coverage.
